After 15 years of bilateral and multilateral negotiations, China’s WTO membership was approved at the WTO Ministerial Conference in Doha,Qatar in November 2001. Quatas for the export of Chinese textile and confectionary products will be eliminated by 2005. After WTO accession, Chinese firms have gained substantially greater advantages in world textile and confectionary markets. İt is estimated that China’s share of textile market in USA could increase from 7.5% to 15% by the year 2010. In order to compete directly with Chinese textile firms,Turkish goverment requires policies designed to protect and promote domestic textile industries. In this study,essential steps to encourage textile export have been determined by the use of a SWOT analysis. To effective compete with Chinese textile products with lowered price, Turkish firms should establish,some advantages such as quick delivery, flexibile production having higher quality and created well-known trade marks.
